Empathy Activities & Lessons for Google Slides SEL
Empathy is a vital social emotional learning skill for our students (and ALL HUMANS!). We can strengthen our classroom communities by explicitly teaching this skill and encouraging students to think with empathy.
This digital Google Slides resource provides students with opportunities to practice understanding empathy.
Includes:
- Overview of Empathy
- Kid-friendly video defining empathy
- 3 Steps for Showing Empathy
- 4 Practice Exercises
Activities included:
1. Students will look at a picture and use empathy to identify the emotion the person is likely experiencing, and type a response about a time when they have felt that way.
2. Students will list ways they can help someone who is feeling each of the following emotions: angry, sad, scared, confused, worried, embarrassed, worried, sick
3. Students will connect an emotion to a specific action by reading or listening to the action and dragging the emotion to the box.
4. Students will practice empathy by reading or listening to real life situations and respond by typing how that would feel and how they could help.
Audio recordings of directions and activities are included.
Students will need to be able to do the following to complete:
- Access Google Slides Presentations (they will need a Google Account)
- Read or listen (by clicking an audio symbol) to each set of directions and activities
- Drag boxes/images on the slides
- Type short answer responses
Important Note: This resource is created to be used with Google Classroom. It is a Google Slides presentation. All students will need access to a Google account to use it.
